You Can Eliminate Discrimination Against Women!
It is a reality that women and girls still experience discriminatory laws, policies, and practices that curtail their human rights. In fact, The Gender Snapshot 2022 report ALERTS us that at the current rate of progress, it will take up to 286 years to close gaps in legal protection and remove discriminatory laws related to women. What can YOU and I do about this situation? Is Gender Equality an elusive goal? This course will expose you to feminist activist approaches to the elimination of discrimination against women and will include too, the understanding of CEDAW, the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and Special Procedures. We will discuss the question “Do UN mechanisms work?” In particular, we will learn about Violence against Women (VAW). VAW is both the cause & consequence of gender inequalities. • Violence against women – particularly intimate partner violence and sexual violence – is a major public health problem and a violation of women's human rights. • Estimates published by WHO indicate that globally about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. This course is exclusively designed for women. Whether you're a student, professional, or homemaker, This course is designed to support you on your unique journey!OngoingInstructor-ledApplication 08-29-2024 ~ 09-25-2024

Glocal Justice and Peacebuilding
This course seeks to provide an overview of the relationship between conflicts and social justice at local and global levels as well as peacebuilding initiatives to transform such conflicts in both South and North contexts. It identifies structural violence or social and economic inequalities and injustices as one of the root causes of global and local (glocal) conflicts and also explores strategies whereby nations and their citizens can live together with justice and compassion to build a culture of peace through personal and social action. Drawing on case studies in diverse regions in the Global South, four specific themes or sectors will be critically examined, including paradigms of development and globalization, the rural poor, women, and indigenous peoples. Educators, professionals, and peacebuilders working in formal as well as non-formal educational contexts are welcome to enroll in the course. It will provide ideas and strategies for integrating the theme of glocal (global and local) justice in programmes of global citizenship education and other interrelated fields of transformative education. ※For any inquiries regarding taking the course, please contact GCED Online Campus administrators, gcedonline@unescoapceiu.org.OngoingInstructor-ledApplication 08-19-2024 ~ 09-13-2024
