Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the auspices of UNESCO

The Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) was established in 2000 as a UNESCO Category 2 centre to promote education for a Culture of Peace. APCEIU is working in close collaboration with UNESCO Offices, National Commissions of Member States, related educational institutes, and civil society to promote global citizenship education (GCED) under the framework of education for international understanding (EIU) towards a Culture of Peace.

APCEIU has devoted itself to strengthening GCED/EIU capacities by pursuing its philosophy and policies through training teachers and teacher trainers; research and policy development; developing educational materials and programs; organizing different levels of workshops and conferences; and strengthening the network of teachers, educators, experts, civil society leaders and other stakeholders.

강좌 리뷰

  • TANGPOS ALDOUS RAPHAEL
In my view, Global Citizenship Education (GCED) focuses on the development of responsible and respectful individuals who recognize their role within a larger global context. It emphasizes the importance of respecting diverse cultures, beliefs, opinions, and lifestyles. To me, GCED encompasses not only awareness of global events but also an understanding of how our actions impact others and the environment. It promotes open-mindedness, responsibility, and a commitment to fostering positive change within our communities.

The lecture also explains that global citizenship is not about traveling or simply knowing about issues around the world. Rather, it is about understanding different perspectives, respecting diversity, recognizing our responsibilities, and taking meaningful action in our communities. It also emphasizes the role of teachers in developing learners who are aware, responsible, inclusive, and willing to contribute to positive change.
  • KIMBUAN RAKMA
My biggest realization from GCED101 is that being a global citizen starts with small actions and everyday choices. We may have different cultures, beliefs, and experiences, but we are all connected in one world. Because of this, we have a responsibility to understand one another and contribute to a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable society. GCED101 taught me that becoming a better global citizen is a continuous process of learning, reflecting, and taking action. I may still have much to learn, but I will carry the lessons from this subject with me as I continue to grow and become more responsible in the world I live in.
