Shobita Rao

Shobita is a learning designer, facilitator, and trained SEL practitioner with a decade of experience at the intersection of education, emotional intelligence, and learning design. Her work is rooted in the belief that learning is most powerful when it speaks to both the head and the heart. Over the last few years, she has led the redesign of large-scale online SEL programs with UNESCO MGIEP, crafted culturally grounded content for diverse learners, and facilitated impactful learning experiences for both youth and educators. From virtual masterclasses to Train-the-Trainer programs for senior faculty, she brings warmth, structure, and deep listening to every session she leads.

With over seven years of experience in instructional design, Shobita has worked with institutions like IIM Bangalore and the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), building learner-centric programs across platforms like edX, Coursera, and FramerSpace. She moves fluidly between designing curriculum and guiding human connection—whether she's writing facilitator guides, designing digital learning journeys, or holding space for reflection and dialogue. Her approach is grounded, compassionate, and always focused on the whole learner.

Course Reviews

This course has been an eye-opening journey of self-discovery and growth. Each session — from self-awareness and emotional regulation to empathy and compassion — helped me better understand not only my own emotions but also the feelings and experiences of others.
What I truly appreciated was how the lessons connected to real-life situations as a teacher and as a person. The reflections allowed me to pause, listen to myself, and build healthier relationships with colleagues and learners. It reminded me that kindness, empathy, and self-compassion are not just concepts but daily practices that make classrooms and communities more humane and nurturing.
Overall, the SEL course strengthened my mindset toward balance, mindfulness, and understanding. It inspired me to lead with empathy and to continue promoting emotional well-being wherever I go.

This is the first online course on ' 'SEL' where I had an immense learning platforms throughout all the courses. I become aware of attributes related to 'SEL' that is embedded in me and how these attributes in a smaller ways contribute to larger understanding of the world we live in. The course is apt to me as I am a person of emotions where I must exposed to new learning. Through the exploration of online campus learning, SEL competencies such as Empathy, Compassion, Awareness,Positive Talk, regulation of emotions, Self Pity to name a few allowed me introspect whether such attributes are present in me. The SEL integration Plan help me to implement on a daily practice of what I learnt during the sessions.
The SEL course was instrumental in waking up of my comfort zone to more of contributing to a common humanity. Such UN initiated program is truly inspiring where I still have to learn more about both community and global emerging emotional issues.
I would describe this online learning platform as ' learning from anywhere' mode. I am more engaged in learning new skills, information, knowledge and practices during the courses. I was glued to the Facilitator's facilitation skills which were crisp, concise, and clear to understand whatever shared online.
I would recommend this course to a few friends who are already a GCED program school. The course chipped in me the resilience competency to be more of inclusive hereafter .
