강좌 소개

This course demystifies AI, tracing its history and development to understand where the technology stands today and how it actually works. It examines the decisions shaping AI's direction, the governance structures that regulate its use, and the growing pushback against AI's expanding dominance across industries and society.

The course addresses the ethical challenges embedded in machine learning and AI development, from bias and accountability to the broader consequences of how these systems are built and trained. Guidance is provided on ethical AI use across personal and professional life, with a focus on developing lasting principles that will remain relevant as the technology continues to evolve.

The course also explores AI's growing impact on media and information, addressing the deepening crisis of AI-enabled misinformation and disinformation, and equipping learners to navigate an increasingly complex information landscape.

By the end of this course, learners will have a grounded understanding of AI's capabilities, governance, and ethical dimensions, enabling confident and principled engagement with AI tools and technologies in a rapidly changing environment.

*IMPORTANT

Please note that the use of AI in preparing application materials is strongly discouraged and may result in disadvantages in the selection process. The AI Ethics and Literacy [Second Batch] course, facilitated by Lisa van Wyk on the GCED Online Campus, is widely praised by participants for its well-structured, insightful, and timely coverage of key topics including AI bias, digital inequality, data privacy, misinformation, copyright, and UNESCO's ethical framework. Participants—spanning educators, researchers, and professionals—found the diverse learning materials and live sessions highly valuable for applying ethical AI practices in their classrooms and professional fields. While the course received strong praise for its clear facilitation and rich content, several reviewers suggested incorporating interactive elements, such as breakout room discussions and collaborative case studies, to help alleviate cognitive load from long lectures and enable peer-to-peer reflection.

AI Ethics and literacy course help me enhanced my understanding on AI as a tool. I was able to know who really AI is, how am I going to utilize it accordingly and responsively. I am grateful that I was one of the students in this course. Thank you to our instructor Lisa Van Wyk, the 6 sessions really enlightened me. This course will definitely bring an impact to me as a professional nurse, clinical instructor and a researcher. Thank you GCED online campus and UNESCO.

I am blessed to have a chance to enrol a course like AI Ethics and Literacy, which is very important in this era. In the beginning, Though I found hard to understand some of the topics as I am not a considered science student but the course lectures, learning materials, presentation slides helped me a lot to understand the deep meaning about AI challenges, bias, digital divide etc. It is really good and effective for everyone. I would like to show my gratitude towards the GCED team and the lecturer Lisa Van Wyk for giving me second chance to continue this course as I failed to submit two assignments within deadline and provide time extent opportunity to submit it later. I hope, I will do some other different course to extend my
knowledge. Thank you GCED online campus and the UNESCO for taking this initiatives.

I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of the GCED AI Ethics and Literacy course because it has helped me see AI from a perspective I had never considered before. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Lecturer Lisa van Wyk for giving me a second chance to participate in this course after I was unable to attend the first three live Zoom sessions due to some difficulties. I truly appreciate this opportunity to continue learning and completing the course.

Through this course, I learned about AI-related challenges such as bias, misinformation, digital inequality, and data privacy. These lessons have made me realize that knowing how to use AI is not enough; we also need to understand its limitations and consider how our use of AI may affect others. As a mathematics teacher, I want to share this awareness with my students and help them use AI wisely, think critically, protect their privacy, respect others, and avoid causing harm. For me, this course has been more than just learning about AI literacy; it has also helped me grow as a more responsible educator in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The AI Ethics and Literacy course was a valuable and eye-opening learning experience for me. It helped me look beyond the practical benefits of AI and better understand important issues such as bias, privacy, misinformation, digital inequality, and responsible use. I especially appreciated the discussions about AI in education and the challenges of distinguishing real information from AI-generated content. As a teacher and mentor, I gained useful knowledge that I can share with my students and colleagues. The course reminded me that AI literacy is not just about using technology, but about questioning it, understanding its impact, and making responsible choices. I am grateful for this opportunity and the chance to learn alongside educators from different countries.

Taking part in “AI Ethics and Literacy” course was a great experience for me. This course is well designed and had a lot of learning materials like six live sessions, number of reading and recorded materials covering news, research articles, UNESCO documents, talk show and etc. Like me anyone can have clear understanding about some issues closely related to AI such as Perspectives on AI, AI Governance and Principles, Copyright and Intellectual Property, Human Labor and Exploitation, Environmental Impact, Misinformation and Deepfakes, Automation Bias, UNESCO’s AI Ethics Framework, Appropriate and Informed Trust, Ethical Practices as Teachers and Trainers, Practicing AI Literacy in the Classroom and so on. But in my opinion this course was mainly based on lectures by the learned course tutor Lisa van Wyk. Participants discussion was limited. If the participants could discuss some issues related to this course or some case studies or local context of AI among themselves, it would be more interactive and enjoyable. Continuous two hours lectures might be the cognitive burden for some participants. But for me it was all right. I am grateful to my course tutor and APCEIU authority for this timely needed course.

First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the GCED Online Campus and our course facilitator, Prof. Liza Wyk, for providing us with this valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of AI Ethics and Literacy.

The six sessions were insightful and enriching, as they introduced me to new knowledge, perspectives, and experiences, some of which were unfamiliar to me. While I found certain topics quite challenging to fully understand, other sessions were particularly engaging and meaningful, especially when the discussions and examples were relevant to my own experiences and professional context.

One suggestion I would like to offer is the inclusion of breakout sessions in future courses. I believe these would make the learning experience more interactive, engaging, and collaborative. Breakout discussions would provide participants with opportunities to exchange personal experiences, insights, and perspectives. Given our diverse cultural backgrounds, professional experiences, and orientations, such exchanges could further enrich our understanding of the topics and allow us to learn not only from the facilitator but also from one another.

    God bless!

This AI Literacy course has been different from other courses I have completed. It challenged me to reflect critically on AI and its ethical implications. I was expecting breakout room discussions where we could exchange and challenge ideas, but there were none. Instead, I found myself reflecting more deeply. I realized that meaningful learning does not always require others to challenge our ideas. Sometimes, we learn more by questioning our own assumptions and beliefs.
Thank you GCED Online Campus and Lisa for these meaningful learning opportunities.

It is very interesting to be learning about AI in a structured manner. Indeed learning from others opens new perspectives by which one can view this technology. During the course of the term, I have had many AHA moments and it tells me that these are ideas that I have never thought of before when navigating AI.
