Caballes JamilLoved this course! This lecture on Global Citizenship Education and Social and Emotional Learning emphasized that education today must go beyond academic learning and instead develop empathy, awareness, and social responsibility among learners. It highlighted the importance of building a culture of engagement, fellowship, and dialogue between myself and the larger world, as this forms the crux of a relationship designed to bolster knowledge, awareness, and in the process, cultivate empathy. Just as dialogue between nations and cultures helps prevent conflict and misunderstanding, dialogue between individuals and communities helps us understand perspectives different from our own. In this sense, Global Citizenship Education teaches us to see ourselves as part of a global community, while Social and Emotional Learning equips us with the empathy, self awareness, and relationship skills needed to live and cooperate in that community. Overall, the lecture showed that knowledge alone is not enough, and that education must ultimately lead to empathy, engagement, and responsible action in an interconnected world.

Rihi Ryan RichardI found this course truly enriching, especially in deepening my understanding of Global Citizenship and Social Emotional Learning. I have prior experience working in the media and information space, advocating to ensure that young people’s interests are considered in decision-making processes and promoting their active and meaningful participation.
Through this course, I have come to recognize the importance of fostering critical inquiry, mindfulness, empathy, and compassion as essential approaches in learning. These are also key to building awareness as a Global Citizen and nurturing respect for individuals and communities with different backgrounds and perspectives.
