The content i got in this lecture is mind blowing. I love the use of videos to share the perspectives and interactive sessions where one had to tick what they think is right . For the past two years, I have ben getting information on SEL and Global citizenship from UNESCO MGIEP presentations at international panels through youtube and UN webtv , but this course has enabled me to get an indepth understanding of SEL and GCED concepts and fundamentals of learning. Not forgetting the bonus of Media Information Literacy and Advocacy. For me as an indivividual who is very vocal about these topics, it is really beyond the certificate, this course has equipped with the knowledge I will pass on to my peers and mentees in schools and universities with more confidence now. Also top notch production from the UNESCO APCEIU team ,the experts and youth presenters. I am inspired!

As I engaged with this lecture, I realized that Global Citizenship Education goes far beyond policy discussions or international relations. It challenged me to think about how my everyday actions, perspectives, and interactions contribute to a broader global community.

What stood out to me most was the idea of being intentional about empathy and responsibility, especially in how we consume and share information. In today’s digital space, it is easy to form opinions based on incomplete or one-sided narratives. This made me reflect on how media can either reinforce stereotypes or promote understanding, depending on how it is used.

The lecture also helped me connect global citizenship to real-world issues such as inequality, access to opportunities, and sustainable development. It made me more conscious of the role I can play, even at a local level, in contributing to a more inclusive and informed society.

Overall, this session shifted my perspective from seeing global citizenship as a distant concept to recognizing it as a daily practice shaped by awareness, responsibility, and action.

As a first-time learner of GCED, I initially perceived this discourse as a space for international policy and diplomacy. However, the lecture made me realize that global citizenship, while it involves talking about international relations, is more on expanding our circle of concern to recognize the universal human rights inherent in every individual, regardless of their country. This understanding is also crucial in the context of consuming media, where narratives can significantly influence our progress towards SDG 4.7. The stories we share online directly shape our capacity to empathy and our commitment to a culture of peace.

This course offered a meaningful and timely reflection on the role of media, education, and youth engagement in addressing global challenges. One of the most valuable aspects for me was the emphasis on how media does not simply convey information, but actively shapes perception, identity, and public discourse. This shifted how I think about communication, especially in the context of advocacy.

I also appreciated how the course connected global citizenship education with social-emotional learning. It highlighted that addressing complex issues such as inequality, conflict, and environmental challenges requires not only knowledge, but also empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with diverse perspectives. This combination feels especially relevant in today’s highly mediated and interconnected world.

Another key takeaway was the importance of youth as active agents of change. Rather than framing young people as passive recipients of information, the course emphasized their capacity to shape narratives, challenge dominant perspectives, and contribute to solutions through media and digital platforms.

Overall, the course was both insightful and practical. It encouraged me to reflect more critically on the content I consume and produce, and how it can influence others. It also reinforced my interest in using research, writing, and media as tools for advocacy, particularly in areas related to governance, climate politics, and public accountability.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in understanding the deeper power of media and its role in shaping both individual perspectives and collective responses to global challenges.
