Bhattarai Jaya SharmaAs a 50-year-old woman from Nepal who has faced significant gender discrimination and has become a wife and mother at a young age due to societal pressures, I found this course extremely empowering. It is designed for women from all walks of life—whether you're a student, a professional, or a homemaker.
The five-week course focused on eliminating discrimination against women and discussed serious issues like Violence Against Women (VAW), which is both a cause and a result of gender inequality. We explored different feminist approaches to activism and assessed the effectiveness of UN mechanisms such as the CEDAW agreement.
The classes were online and required active participation, making regular attendance crucial. We had access to a wealth of resources like PowerPoint presentations, case studies, and articles through the GCED Online Campus, which deepened our understanding of the global movement for women's rights.
We engaged in practical tasks like contributing to an online magazine and designing projects to combat gender discrimination. This hands-on approach helped us understand how to apply our real-life learnings.
The course attracted women of different ages from around the world, including many young women about the age of my daughter. This diversity enriched our discussions and helped me see different points of view.
As a counsellor, I found the insights valuable for enhancing my ability to support clients with gender-based issues. The knowledge and tools I've acquired will benefit my practice, allowing me to offer more informed and empathetic guidance.
I want to thank Ms. Ivy Josiah for her inspiring teaching and Meto and Archita for their help throughout the course. A big thanks also goes to the other team members from APCEIU who supported us.
This course was not just about learning; it was truly inspiring. It gave me the tools and knowledge to work for gender equality and to challenge old ways of thinking in my community. If you're passionate about making a difference in women's lives, this course is a great place to start. -
Taraki ShafiqaThe "Let's Eliminate Discrimination Against Women" course was extremely beneficial and eye-opening. This course had a really diverse group of students from all different backgrounds. The classroom brought together people of different genders, races, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses.
Having that mix of identities and experiences among my classmates made the discussions incredibly rich. As we learned about gender discrimination issues like workplace inequities, gender norms and roles, and feminist movements, it was valuable to hear the varied perspectives from my peers.
Whether it was personal stories, unique cultural viewpoints, or insights based on their identities, every student brought something different to our conversations. We created a supportive environment to tackle these heavy topics together.
I learned a lot from the professor and my fellow students in this course. Hearing my classmates' lived experiences added depth to the concepts we studied. -
Fortuna AngelicaProfessor Ivy's lecture on Eliminating Discrimination Against Women (EDAW) was truly enlightening. Her passion for gender equality and creating inclusive workplaces was palpable throughout the session. She skillfully navigated complex topics, offering practical examples and thought-provoking insights that resonated deeply with the audience. What stood out most was her emphasis on empathy and understanding as catalysts for positive change. Professor Ivy fostered an open and respectful dialogue, encouraging participants to reflect on their own biases and privileges. Her commitment to empowering women and challenging discriminatory practices was inspiring. By the end of the lecture, I felt both informed and motivated to take meaningful action in promoting gender equality and inclusivity in my workplace. Professor Ivy's expertise and compassion created a transformative learning experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on all who attended.
