Global citizenship education (GCED) is a form of civic learning that involves students' active participation in projects that address global issues of a social, political, economic, or environmental nature. The two main elements of GCE are 'global consciousness'; the moral or ethical aspect of global issues, and 'global competencies', or skills meant to enable learners to participate in changing and developing the world.

My participation in the course has given me a deeper understanding of GCED (Global Citizenship Education) and the concepts explored in the course has given me renewed optimism for the future of education and global citizenship. GCED, as presented in the course, is not new, but an evolving phenomenon of learning that builds upon other models. This realization is the crucial first insight I draw upon completing the course because rather than reinventing the wheel, we have an opportunity to become creative and innovate upon what we already have, and present in ways that are easily relatable, understood, and practiced.

  • NGNAOUSSI ELONGUE Cedric Christian
Throughout the 12 chapters of this course, I learned about GCED concepts and its history, and guidelines for teaching and learning GCED. I gained an understanding of the key principles of GCED, recognized educational issues relevant to GCED, and identified pedagogical approaches to GCED.

I have learned that GCED is all about learning to Know, to Do, to Be, and to Live Together. Though all principles are essential to achieving the fundamental goals of education, ‘Learning to live together’ is very important and relevant in this age of globalization.
